Summer is Running Early
The inshore fishery around New Smyrna Beach is firing on multiple species right now, and the nearshore bite is keeping rods bent on every trip.
Redfish
Reds are holding tight to structure and they're eating. Quality fish have been making it to the boat consistently, with several nice specimens landed over the past week.
This is typical for late spring and early summer on the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon corridor — as water temps stabilize, redfish stack up around docks, oyster bars, and grass edges. The fish are there if you put your bait in the right place.
Snook
Snook are showing well. We've been putting clients on some solid fish, and the bite should only get better as June rolls on.
Snook season in the New Smyrna Beach area tends to peak through the summer months as fish push into backwater structure and staging areas ahead of the spawn.
Tarpon
One of the more memorable catches of the week — a tarpon that put on a full aerial show before coming boatside. These fish are moving through, and the window is open right now.
Tarpon are mid-migration along the Florida east coast through June and July. New Smyrna Beach sits in a prime corridor, and the timing is right.
Sharks
The nearshore shark bite has been consistent, and calmer conditions have allowed us to spend more time dialing in on bigger fish. Sharks have been keeping everyone entertained — including the kids. Several young anglers got their first shark this week.
Spadefish
A standout moment came from a young angler who landed a nice spadefish on an offshore run. Spadefish are starting to congregate around nearshore structure and wrecks as water warms — worth targeting if you want something different.
